The Magistrate’s Office has jurisdiction over many misdemeanor criminal and traffic charges, typically where the penalty is a maximum of 30 days in jail or a fine. The Magistrate’s Office also has civil jurisdiction where the amount in controversy does not exceed $7,500, and certain landlord and tenant matters.
